Copper network cable (UTP/FTP) has a distance limit of about 100 metres. Fiber optic cable carries the signal much further and is immune to electromagnetic interference.
Businesses often use fiber between buildings, floors or distant points on a large site — for example from a warehouse office to the yard cameras.
