1Do backups run automatically on a schedule — often enough for the amount of data you can afford to lose (e.g. daily)?
2Does your data have at least 3 copies, on 2 different media, with one copy off-site or in the cloud?
3Is one copy offline or immutable — so ransomware or an attacker cannot delete or encrypt it?
4Have you verified in the last 3 months that files and systems can actually be restored from backup?
5Do backups cover everything important: servers, databases, shared folders and files stored on employees’ computers?
6Is data in cloud services (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace) — email, OneDrive, SharePoint — backed up separately?
7Are older file versions kept, so you can roll back to the state of several days or weeks ago?
8Are backup copies encrypted, with access limited to administrators?
9Is it clear who is responsible for backups, and who gets notified when a backup fails?
10Is it documented how, and in what order, systems will be restored after an incident?
