IR (infrared) LEDs emit light that the human eye can't see. In darkness the camera uses this light and usually produces a black-and-white image.
Camera specs often state something like "IR 30 m" — the maximum night vision distance in good conditions. Alternatives are cameras that use visible white light or highly sensitive sensors to give a colour image at night.
